KG Hotel Klaksvík officially opened in the Faroe Islands as the north Atlantic archipelago’s first 4-star hotel outside of the capital of Tórshavn. On the island of Borðoy, in the Northern Isles, sits the 83-room property, offering a truly remote getaway amid stunning scenery, including mountain peaks, a fjord inlet and the town of Klaksvík’s colorful harbor.
Designed to seamlessly integrate as a natural extension of Klaksvík’s landscape, the hotel’s design blends clean, Scandinavian lines; a warm wood palette; and concrete inspired by Faroese building traditions. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the vista, which the hotel’s sustainability measures seek to protect through environmentally friendly features like an energy-efficient seawater heating system.
Alda Spa, named for the Faroese word meaning wave, offers a respite for relaxation after time spent outdoors hiking, sailing or exploring the islands, features a fjord-facing sauna, outdoor pool, steam bath, indoor sauna and treatment rooms. On-site restaurant Sand serves fresh Faroese seafood and shellfish and grilled meats.
Klaksvík, 45 minutes from Tórshavn, is perfectly positioned for exploring the Faroe Islands, a cluster of 18 islands in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, 200 miles north of Scotland, west of Norway and east of Iceland. The population of the Faroes is around 55,000 people and 80,000 sheep, who can be seen in some surprising locations like the grass-roofed traditional buildings.
