North America

The Los Angeles phenomenon of brunch is a luxurious, laidback affair. While most A-listers flock to the same eateries, there are many unexpected, undiscovered brunch spots waiting for you this weekend.

For a throwback to the East Coast, visit the Nickel Diner in downtown Los Angeles. The diner serves breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Try the aptly named Hangover Helper — scrambled eggs with bacon, Italian sausage, potatoes, topped with Pepperjack cheese, avocado and salsa with a side of toast.

Mike and Ann’s in South Pasadena is a charming take on traditional brunch fare. Order the Challah French Toast or hearty breakfast quesadilla.

In Highland Park, stop by Kitchen Mouse. This breakfast and lunch restaurant has traditional options as well as a variety of vegetarian and gluten free items. Try their California Breakfast section and indulge in kale, quinoa and tempeh bacon.

Visit Another Kind of Sunrise in Venice for healthier options. Their breakfast bowls and smoothies are a hit with the health-minded brunch crowd. They offer everything from paleo granola to gluten free muffin tops.

For a relaxing brunch before 11:30 a.m., try Café Vida. Their menu focuses on healthful cuisine. Order the delicious blueberry corn cakes, topped with maple syrup and powdered sugar.

Brunch can be an eclectic affair — ranging from indulgent to light and energizing, sweet to savory. Whatever your tastes and dietary preferences, Los Angeles has a brunch spot for you.
