Amsterdam has a reputation for its booming brewery business. Craft breweries sprung up all over the city in the last decade. Choosing which one to visit can be daunting, but here are a few worth a look.
Brouwerij het IJ is hard to miss — the giant windmill hovering above gives it away. Inside, you’ll find an excellent beer garden that features two of the most famous craft beers in the country, Natte Dubbel and Zatte Trippel. They each feature smoky flavors and high proof levels.
Brouwerij de Prael earns our respect simply for being a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a great drink. The interior is modeled after a vintage feel, with older furniture and tiled walls. You’ll also find incredible Dutch food and a variety of craft brews.
Butcher’s Tears resides in an old warehouse right on the canal. The industrial interior provides a rustic appeal, while the minimalistic taproom offers craft beer derived from traditional brewing techniques. While there are plenty of modern IPAs available, you’ll find the barrel-aged dark ales a real treat.
Brouwerij Troost first sprung onto the scene in 2014 and since expanded into two other locations. The original location rests inside a converted monastery and produces some incredible golden pilsners along with low-alcohol IPAs for those who don’t drink much. They also aren’t afraid to experiment and release new craft brews every month.
