I dined at Baia Restaurant on a recent trip to Somers Point, N.J. We arrived during the dinner rush on a beautiful Saturday evening without reservations. Despite these factors, we only had to wait about 30 minutes for a table overlooking the bay. We ordered drinks from the happy hour menu at the bar while we waited. I opted for a glass of Pinot Grigio from the selection of $2–7 drinks. Time passed quickly and we were seated outside at a table near the water.
The menu at Baia features Italian coastal dishes with a focus on fresh-caught seafood. Shortly after we were seated, our friendly waitress brought crusty bread with a delicious garlic olive oil dipping sauce. We ordered calamari for the table to start. The tender calamari was lightly fried and came with a flavorful tomato sauce for dipping. It was the perfect-size portion split between our group of four. I ordered the sautéed shrimp pasta for my main course. The succulent shrimp were served atop linguini with roasted tomatoes, smashed garlic, sweet basil, bocconcini mozzarella and olive oil. The dish was light yet filling, and I cleaned my plate. I was far too full for dessert, though the blueberry pie was tempting.
Baia is a lovely spot in Somers Point for great service, beautiful views and delicious food.
