Some cities take their barbecue extremely seriously and, if you do too, you’ll want to make tracks for one of America’s best barbecue destinations during your next trip. Real estate data company Clever recently conducted a survey on the best barbecue cities in America, looking at the 50 most-populous metropolitan areas and comparing a range of factors.
Here’s what Clever found:
Unsurprisingly, the best state overall for barbecue is Texas, with San Antonio ranking as the best barbecue city overall for its many barbecue restaurants and relatively low prices. However, some destinations known for their barbecue didn’t score as highly as you might assume; for example, Kansas City, Missouri, ranked only 10th on the list, due to its high prices and the driving distances between barbecue restaurants. Somewhat unexpectedly, Las Vegas boasts the most barbecue restaurants per capita, with six restaurants per 100,000 residents, compared to the national average of 2.2 restaurants per 100,000 residents.
After San Antonio, Texas, the top barbecue cities in America, according to the study, are, in descending order, Austin, Texas; San Jose, California; Nashville, Tennessee; Las Vegas, Nevada; Birmingham, Alabama; Tampa, Florida; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jacksonville, Florida; and Kansas City, Missouri.
