Quito offers a delightful mix of traditional Ecuadorian food and international cuisine, both of which can be had on a budget. Whether you’re in the mood for pasta or pig, these wallet-friendly eateries will satisfy your appetite.

Fabiolita is a family-owned restaurant located right in the heart of Quito’s Old Town. The traditional sandwich shop boasts authentic Ecuadorian flavors and a vibrant, friendly atmosphere perfect for a midday meal.

Empanadas de Morocho Ulloa serves up fried empanadas with local ingredients and some truly incredible homemade salsa. The owner and chef is a frequent face out front mingling with guests, and the prices are hard to beat. She’ll also bake your empanadas on request.

The foodie scene in Quito experienced a lot of European influence, which is why the city is ripe with great pizzerias. Cosa Nostra stands above the rest with a great mix of pizza, calzones and other pasta. The menu was made by an Italian expat, so the food is authentic and delicious. It’s also a popular hangout for families and a younger crowd on the weekends.

Finally, you can’t experience Quito without trying a local staple — the slow-roasted guinea pig. Cuy is a popular dish in the region and Leña Quiteña is the place to be. The quirky restaurant is located in the La Ronda neighborhood and attracts quite a crowd, but it’s worth a wait for this unusual dish. The price is fair, and the food delicious.
