Chicago has always been a massive beer-drinking city, with small-batch craft breweries gaining every year.
According to the Brewers Association, the Chicago area now has more than 2,500 craft breweries, up from 1,500 less than a decade ago.
Ale Syndicate Brewing, 5 Rabbit Brewery, Begyle Brewing Company, Flesk Brewing Company, Pipeworks Brewing Company, Three Angels Brewing, Spiteful Brewing, Ten Ninety Brewing Company and Une Année Brewery are just a few of the breweries that have built taprooms and offer tours to accommodate visitors who want to know more about the process of making the alcoholic “Nectar of The Gods.”
Argus Brewery offers one of the most comprehensive brewery tours in all of Chicago. Tickets must be purchased in advance, but the 90-minute tour is worth every penny ($15) with visitors allowed a near unlimited tasting as well as being able to take home a commemorative pint glass.
Despite the fact many Chicagoans were distraught when the Lincoln Park brewery Goose Island sold to Budweiser behemoth Anheuser-Busch, it’s still an excellent brewery with solid products. The tour allows for a six-beer tasting at the end of the tour (you can keep the glass) for a mere $10.
There are countless other tours as well as companies that specialize in beer-driven (party bus and walking), all-afternoon tours.
