Burlesque may seem like a thing of the past, but sold-out shows up and down the East Coast performed by multiple burlesque troupes prove that the art of the tease is very much alive and well. These choreographed shows are definitely sexy, but often blend the iconic striptease element of the performance with singing, dancing and even comedy.
One troupe that does it all and then some is The Corsettes, a New Jersey-based group of performers who blend music, dance, comedy and striptease into one very entertaining show. The troupe performs in the New Jersey/New York/Philadelphia metro area to consistently sold-out crowds.
The Corsettes blend classic burlesque with the live music of cabaret, making their shows something they call “Caburlseque.” Attend a show and watch the troupe members sing live, with live musical accompaniment, as well as dance to fun, choreographed routines and, yes, slip out of an array of colorful costumes. The troupe’s current show, A Few Good Flirts, is known as much for its comedy as for its sultriness, and evokes as many laughs as it does whistles from audience members.
