I recently ate at Dudley’s, a favorite local spot in Manhattan’s Lower East Side neighborhood. While the space is small, it makes for a cozy, quaint atmosphere. During the warmer months, the restaurant opens its window and offers sidewalk seating, which in passing seems to be very popular. We arrived early for Sunday breakfast, but they still agreed to sit us, even though they were not technically open yet. We were seated at a table nestled in the corner next to the windows, which offered a nice street view.
Our server asked us if he could get us started with a cup of coffee. As I prefer my coffee black, I appreciated the strong, bold flavor. Our server, along with the other restaurant staff, seemed attentive and friendly. In addition to the coffee, I ordered a Bloody Mary, which may have been one of my favorites in NYC — or maybe anywhere! It was perfectly flavored, not too strong, but also had a nice spicy kick to it. While I was interested in breakfast, Dudley’s offer a daily all-day menu with additional salad, sandwiches, burgers and small plate options. I chose the smashed avocado dish, served on toasted seven-grain bread with side of sliced cherry tomatoes. I opted to add a fried egg as well. While it was a bit messy to eat, it was delicious. My friend chose the “Famous Bronte Burger,” which is a seasoned beef patty, served with sweet chili sauce, mayo and cheese. The burger was flavorful and served with truffle oil French fries. Next time, I will definitely make sure to order the fries. They were served hot and crispy, with just the right amount of truffled aioli.
Prices ranged anywhere from $5–15 on the all-day menu, which I found reasonable. The cocktails are a bit more pricey, ranging from $10 and up, per drink. However, well worth it!
I enjoyed my meal and overall experience at Dudley’s. I look forward to returning when I can enjoy a bite to eat during the summer months and experience the outdoor sidewalk seating.
