Ethical apparel brand United By Blue was founded in 2010 by Brian Linton, who envisioned an outdoor outfitter that could make a difference to the environment.
The brand focuses its environmental efforts on oceans and waterways, from which the company pledges to remove one pound of trash for every product that they sell. So far thousands of pounds of trash have been removed during cleanups organized by the company, with the involvement of thousands of volunteers.
The Philadelphia-based company has its flagship store and coffee house in the Old City area, where customers can sip on a freshly prepared brew as they peruse the range of clothing and accessories.
A selection of the company’s bags have been featured on the Urban Outfitters website, and the product range has taken another step beyond clothing with a selection of camping accessories such as folding furniture and a portable coffee-making kit.
If you are looking for a novel way of contributing to efforts to clean up waterways, why not buy one of United By Blue’s axes, or get involved in one of the next cleanups. Although an outdoor apparel brand based in Philadelphia may not seem like the most obvious combination, United By Blue should be applauded for their work in helping to conserve oft-overlooked areas of our environment.
