Reward yourself for healthy behavior with Wellcoin, a free website and app featuring a type of health currency that rewards members for doing healthy activities.
Launched with a mission to help Americans lead healthier lives, Wellcoin provides members with Wellcoins for their healthy efforts, allowing them to shop in an online marketplace boasting goods and services from Skechers, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Pure Barre, Whole Foods Market and several local fitness partners and vendors.
Sleep at least seven hours per night? Earn up to 45 points. Eat a healthy lunch? Receive another 61 points. Members can earn points in a variety of ways, ranging from choosing a healthy beverage to helping one’s child or pet be healthy.
To increase their earnings, members can sync their account with fitness monitors from Fitbit and other brands or by uploading photos to verify their activities. Those who participated in the launch of the product have used more than 200 different fitness and food-related apps to verify their claims.
“Wellcoin was founded on the premise that rewarding people for easy-to-adopt, positive behaviors can help create lasting lifestyle changes,” said Glenn Laffel, MD, PhD, a Wellcoin founder and a former attending physician in the cardiac transplantation program at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. “Our members are inspired by the fantastic rewards in our Marketplace, and also by our community and the support it provides.”
In its successful beta, Wellcoin enlisted 10,000 Boston-based members and featured more than 65 partners handing out rewards, including gift cards, running shoes, fitness classes, healthy snacks and massages.
