Maybe you’ve always had a fascination with Roman history, or perhaps you’ve been watching a lot of Spartacus on TV, but we’re sure at some point time you’ve wondered what it must’ve been like to be a Roman Gladiator.
Here’s your chance to find out. Roman gladiator schools have been popping up all over the city and are turning into mega tourist attractions. The Historical Group of Rome runs one of the most popular schools and it’s worth checking out.
You’ll receive two hours of Roman gladiator training and lessons from the Historical Group of Rome, along with gear and weapons to wear during your training. They’ll dress you up in traditional tunics, leather gloves and even give you a rudis to use as you test your skills. You’ll learn how to parry, thrust and dodge your opponents’ weapons and get to experience what it was like to fight to death in the arena, just without the actual blood and death. It’s even safe for kids as young as six!
They provide free drinks during your training and the package includes free admission to the Gladiator School of Rome Museum where you can learn all about the history of the arena and competition. Fair warning, it gets a little brutal, so it might not be suitable for small children.
Admission is around $65 per person and they offer lessons at various times throughout the day. Do you have what it takes to survive the arena?
