Wearables are ubiquitous at the gym these days, especially with the iPhone’s built-in health monitoring app, but few gadgets are capable of tracking every aspect of your regiment. That’s where Athos comes in, a smart clothing line with electromyography sensors built right into the fabric, designed to give you real-time feedback on its companion app.
Wearable biosensors have been around for a while now, but Athos takes it to the next level with a shirt and pair of compression shorts containing 22 EMG sensors, four heart rate monitors and two breathing sensors. The Athos app uses the information gained from these sensors to display which muscle groups are being worked, thereby pointing out improper form and maximizing efficiency.
The clothing line doesn’t come cheap. A full-body package will run you $547 for a shirt, a pair of pants and a Core sensor. Founder Dhananja Jayalath says most of their customers are fitness junkies, so the outfit’s price tag is easily surpassed by the cost of paying a trainer.
