Honeymoon in Kepulauan Seribu, Indonesia, for a Truly Romantic Getaway

Kepulauan Seribu, or Thousand Islands, is the name given to the 110 tropical islands in the Bay of Jakarta. The widely untouched beauties gained traction recently as a lavish and wonderful honeymoon destination.

Only 11 of the islands are inhabited, the rest are privately owned or dedicated nature sanctuaries. The Bay is popular among snorkel enthusiasts and it’s not uncommon to see turtles, whales, dolphins and more off the shore. Depending on your time, you can vacation on an island anywhere between 30 minutes and three hours from the mainland. Pulau Tidung is a favorite among honeymooners thanks to the Love Bridge, an 800-meter bridge connecting the island with the larger Tidung. It stands as a symbol of undying hope and love.

Pulau Macan is another favorite due to its emphasis on eco-tourism and its romantic huts designed for lovers. The huts are private and often offer private access to the beach or are right on the water. It’s also the most luxurious of the Thousand Islands.

Palua Sepa is another beloved island that boasts a wealth of fun activities. It offers snorkeling, banana boating, diving and jet-skiing. Sepa is also inundated with turtles floating through the crystal-clear waters. It’s roughly a 1.5-hour boat ride to reach it from Marina Ancol.

If you’re honeymooning on a budget, check out Pulau Harapan. The island has homestay options and plenty of snorkeling spots, though is noticeably smaller than other places in the Bay. It’s also surrounded by smaller islands offering even more seclusion, each a quick hop away.
