The energy bar market is a crowded one, but it’s mostly crowded with sub-par items more utilitarian than delicious.

Enter Kate’s Real Food, a small company hoping to infuse this industry with some fresh blood. The bars are wholesome, made from recognizable ingredients and, most importantly, delicious.

The “Kate” behind the company is Kate Schade, a self-proclaimed ski bum who started making her own energy bars in her home kitchen. The recipes evolved and the popularity grew, and before long, Schade had herself a business.

Today, Schade’s bars and bites involve a carefully tuned mix of carbohydrates and protein, offering an energy boost while also keeping you full longer. Ingredients, many of which are organic, include oats, honey, cocoa butter, dried fruit, sunflower seeds, chia seeds and peanuts.

There are a few variations in flavor and combination, but each bar or bite is a delicious way to fuel up. They pack easily into a jacket pocket and, best of all, they do well in the cold — these bars won’t harden to the point of teeth-breaking. As a skier, Schade understands how to keep these bars delicious no matter the climate.
