There’s a reason bacon is such a beloved part of most Americans’ morning — pig is just delicious. It turns out none know this better than the French. The country’s annual pig festival is one mouth-watering, delicious event that attracts visitors from all over the world.
La Pourcailhade (Festival of the Pig) has been celebrated in the town of Trie-sur-Baise in southwestern France since 1975 and hails all things hog. Visitors and locals dress up with pig tails and noses to show their support for the pig farming industry while throwing parties and enjoying some scrumptious meat.
Competitions are set up all throughout town, including a battle to see who can design the best pig outfit, which businesses can create the most inspiring pig-themed displays and, of course, some sausage eating wars. The culmination of the celebration is an all-out pig squealing battle wherein competitors go duke it out to see who can emulate the sounds of a squealing pig at each life stage. If it sounds completely ridiculous, but that’s kind of the point.
During all of this, mini markets are set up around town along with sit-down banquets so you can enjoy every variety of delicious edible pig parts you can imagine. If there’s a better festival somewhere in the world, we haven’t heard of it yet.
