Dreaming of an island getaway this Easter? Forget the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Instead, choose an island off the coast of England. Lindisfarne is known as Holy Island, and it’s the perfect spot to spend a holy holiday.

Lindisfarne derives its nickname, Holy Island, from its status as the once-home to St. Cuthbert, Northumbria’s patron saint. Pilgrims now descend upon this island, called the epicenter of Celtic Christianity, every Easter weekend.

The island is secluded and filled with wildlife and spectacular views, particularly in the spring. It sits just off the Northumberland coast, with a connecting, 3-mile causeway obstructed by the tide twice daily. Despite the island’s rugged and secluded appearance, though, you can still find places to stay, like self-catering properties available from Crabtree & Crabtree.

For large groups of up to eight, the brand’s Cambridge House offers large bedrooms, an open kitchen and dining room, and a private garden in a great location. For smaller groups of up to four, a small cottage in a historic stone building lies nearby Cambridge House. Another cottage on the property is just big enough for two, also with its own garden.

Regardless of where you stay while on Lindisfarne, you’re sure to love the historic sites, including the castle, 11th-century priory and gardens.
