Tips / Travel

Getting out into the great outdoors is a great way to disconnect from city life and relax, but a camping trip can soon turn stressful if you are not properly prepared.

Remember the following key items to make your trip as comfortable and stress-free as possible, so you can spend more time enjoying nature rather than battling against it. There is no need to take extravagant luxury items; these solid tips will allow you to maintain a decent level of comfort while not weighing down your pack.

Even during the summer months, it can get chilly at night. Take lots of layered clothing so you can adjust your temperature quickly and easily, and remember to take a roll mat. Heat will be lost to the ground even through your sleeping bag and tent, and sleeping on cold surfaces could mean you wake up with stiff muscles.

Keep your food in sealed containers to avoid bug infestations. If you’re packing light, it’s unlikely there will be spare food and no one wants to lose a meal to ants. Secure your resources to keep camp morale high; it has been scientifically proven some people get moody when they are hungry.

Take a pair of light, covered shoes for around camp, and extra pairs of socks. After a long day on the trail, the last thing you want to do is keep your sweaty boots on while you cook dinner and relax around the campfire. By taking a light, covered pair of shoes you can give your feet a chance to breathe, while also allowing your hiking shoes to dry out for the next day.

While these tips may seem simple, you would be surprised how much they could affect your trip if you forget to follow them.
