One thing you don’t want to constantly be shuffling around while traveling is a plethora of credit and debit cards. We all have a few (or more) and digging through them to find your preferred method of payment is not only aggravating, it can also make you a target for theft if you’re not careful.
Thankfully, there’s Coin a device with the appearance and function of a credit card, but it is actually all of your current cards rolled into one. Just press a button on the device, pick the card you want to use and swipe or tap to pay. Then you’re good to go. In addition to allowing you to access all of your credit and debit cards, it will also allow you to use gift, loyalty and membership cards of any kind.
The device, which is the same size and shape of a regular card, holds data for up to eight cards at once. Internet access is not required, unless you’re adding a card. An app on your phone also tracks each time the device is used.
After each use, the device locks itself, and a tap code is required to unlock it. A tap code is similar to Morse code, which you input into the device’s lone button. Once loaded onto the device for usage, cards are only identified by the issuer name, last four digits and expiration date. You can scroll through your eight cards by pressing the button, and when you’ve reached the card of your choice, you just use Coin like you would any other credit card.
Coin can be used internationally, as long as you’re using cards from U.S. banks and brands. Unlike Apple Pay, Coin works without a mobile device and everywhere normal cards are accepted.
Currently, Coin’s website and Amazon are completely sold out, but you can still purchase the device on eBay for upwards of $350.
