The Canyon Weather Defense backpack from Outdoor Products is simple and straightforward, but it absolutely does the job it’s meant to do — keep your stuff dry.

The gray, black and yellow pack measures 19.6 inches wide by 12 inches high by 5.9 inches deep, making it an ideal size for day hiking in the mountains or carrying it around a city. The fabric of the pack is a sturdy Weather Defense fabric. Though the zippers don’t appear to feature any additional waterproofing, the contents of the pack stay dry through an entire day in a significant downpour.

The pack structure lacks needless bells and whistles, so you’re not stuck rummaging through pockets upon pockets to find your stuff. There are two compartments plus two external side pockets for water bottles. Inside the main compartments, there are a handful of other, smaller pockets and compartments for storing important items, like keys, wallet and phone, to make them easily accessible.

The pack is outfitted with a foam-padded back for comfort, an adjustable sternum strap and an adjustable weight belt to help distribute the weight of the pack and keep you comfortable on a long hike. The straps are pared down and unpadded, so they’re not as heavy duty as found on some day packs, but they take care of business. The pack is also hydration-compatible for separately-sold water reservoirs.
