Restaurant

Burger joint Pecos Bill now has two locations in the Guatemalan capital, one in Zone 4 and the other in Zone 10.

The latter opened a matter of months ago, and offers hamburgers, sliders and milkshakes in a diner-style setting. Using a special combination of spices, Pecos Bill makes a great burger. Choose one patty or two, and make it a combo with a milkshake or soft drink.

Pecos Bill 1950 tried to recreate the atmosphere of a U.S.-style diner but it must be said it is not a convincing attempt. However, the quality of the food is better than fast food offerings and the burgers and fries are good. A quarter-pounder with bacon and cheese is just $5, or $2 extra with fries and a milkshake.

Quality meat and decent seasoning mean the burgers are tasty, but there aren’t too many options to try on repeat visits. Pecos Bill knows what it’s good at and it does it well, but there is little excitement.

The humble hamburger is experiencing something of a renaissance in Guatemala, and competition is stiff. For me, Pecos Bill does not do enough to mark itself from the rest of the pack, with Del Puente developing into a favorite among the denizens of Guatemala City.
