While Instagram and Facebook are good for preserving our travel memories for the time being, sometimes it’s nice to have a physical copy of those photos from your gap year, or that time you and your partner took an impromptu trip to a tropical location. Big-box photo printers are a little impersonal, and the options don’t always do your photos justice.
However, two sisters who have experience as professional photographers created Artifact Uprising. To them, your photo quality and the materials your photos are printed on matter, and they also think photography should be an eco-friendly practice. Hence, photo albums are made with recycled fibers, frames with reclaimed wood and other products with sustainable paper. Additionally, this company is reaching out to its communities, and partnering with a non-profit to provide jobs for adults with intellectual disabilities.
But what does Artifact Uprising actually offer? Of course, it has your typical products, such as photo books, prints and Christmas cards (though be assured the templates for these cards are of a much higher-end design than the big-box printers). It also offers square prints for Instagram photos, and ultra-thick and large format prints for artistic displays. Choose to pair your prints with a wood block for a minimalistic desk display (sets come with 12 textured prints and one wood block). The same stands are available in solid brass and cork.
Put your favorite travel photos in a book of postcards, perfect for tearing and sending. Have your prints framed before they’re sent to you, with the selection of equally beautiful frames, including deep-set and floating frames. Calendars are not your average ring-bound flip book — there’s the clipboard calendar made of reclaimed pine, another perched on a brass easel and one uniquely backed with a composite made from the wool of U.K. sheep.
Can’t settle on a photo project just by clicking through the product line? Check out the project idea gallery, where you’ll see an array of projects, all more elegantly designed than the last.
Do keep in mind, with brands like Artifact Uprising, you get what you pay for. Pricier than the big-box guys, the brand delivers if you’re looking for an aesthetic a step above the rest.
