Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge is nestled within a remote beach in Alaska’s Kachemak Bay State Park. As one of the most beautiful regions in the state, it has become a popular destination for tourists and one of the best starting points for exploration.
The lodge is only a short 10-mile boat ride from Homer, a charming seaside town known as the halibut fishing capital of the world and a fantastic place for bear viewing adventures. It’s also great for kayaking, dining and shopping in one of the dozens of quaint shops downtown. Sadie Cove also rests between the vertical peaks of the Sadie Fjord and many of the private cabins offer excellent views of Sadie Cove and the ocean.
Adventurous travelers will appreciate how close the lodge is to nature, with private trails located just a few feet away. Down them you’ll discover many of the natives, including bears, mountain goats, bald eagles and an extensive array of birdlife. Offshore there are hundreds of seals, whales and sea otters that can be seen by boat.
The accommodations themselves are a bit dated, built in the 70s, but the owners did a wonderful job with the upkeep and offer a great experience for guests. One of the perks of the lodge is it’s run entirely on a non-polluting energy system of wind and hydro, so a stay here is also eco-friendly.
Rates for a night at the lodge begin at $550 per person, pretty standard for remote regions in Alaska. It’ll be well worth the price once you catch a glimpse of the breathtaking wildlife the area has to offer.
