Tucked in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles is a holistic urban oasis. The Springs, a recently opened restaurant, yoga center and wellness shop, is the perfect addition to your Los Angeles travel itinerary.
The co-founders, Jared Stein and Kimberly Helms, view The Springs as an urban oasis — dedicated to promoting wellbeing in the City of Angels. “We just wanted a well-designed oasis for urbanites that combined all of the elements we live by in our health-conscious lifestyle,” explains Helms.
Despite buzzwords like raw, vegan and gluten-free, Stein stresses that The Springs is a community space. “You can be vegan and have a lifestyle centered around health, without being a hippie or elitist,” he adds. The Springs has a lounge, communal tables and free WiFi to promote a welcoming, community space.
The Springs restaurant serves a rejuvenating array of raw vegan food. Raw food — heated less than 118 degrees — retains more nutrients than cooked food. Although some dishes incorporate raw honey, for its medicinal benefits, the majority of the menu is 100 percent vegan. The artfully prepared dishes are sprinkled with edible flowers, which add a special dimension to the meal.
“I am really obsessed with the salads we have at The Springs, in particular the Nacho Salad and the Seaweed Caesar Salad. They are large and are intended to be a meal on their own,” says Chef Michael Falso. “The salads are composed, flavorful, and hearty. The goal was to arrange them as a focal point on the menu — not just plugged in before an entrée or after an appetizer — but instead salads are an entire category on their own.” Although the prices range from $14–21 per entrée, the fresh, unique combination of ingredients is worth the price.
The Springs has a full-service juice bar, a healthy selection of grab-n-go meals as well as a sit-down restaurant and biodynamic bar. It is an ideal stop for a refreshing post-flight pick-me-up. They currently offer multiple yoga classes a day, drop-in sessions and flexible scheduling to accommodate residents and visitors. Make sure to visit The Springs for a taste of the Los Angeles Arts District and a truly rejuvenating experience.
