The latest innovation in rain gear comes from Hiroshi Kajimoto of +d/H-concepts. The UnBrella features an inverted design that closes the umbrella upwards, protecting the users from splash and sitting straight without the need of a stand.
Kajimoto builds upon the long history of umbrellas, dating back to the 13th century. The industrial designer spent nearly a decade perfecting his concept, saying “an upside down umbrella truly required upside down thinking.” His design places the frame on the top side of the umbrella, closing the wet, outer surface away from the user in an elegant fashion. When closed, it stands on its own to dry in a compact footprint. The UnBrella is made in Japan, and comes in light blue, navy and turquoise, measuring 32 inches.
Learn more about Hiroshi Kajimoto at his website. The UnBrella is available for purchase at h-concept.jp for about $100.
