Destinations / Asia

The cities are fascinating, but Japan also boasts a wealth of natural attractions. Here are some of the best.

Mount Fuji

This iconic volcano is within easy reach of Tokyo and has become a hugely popular attraction. You can climb it in the warmer months, or stay nearby and admire its beauty in the winter.

Noto Peninsula

Found in the Ishikawa prefecture on the Sea of Japan, this peninsula offers some of the most unspoiled scenery in the country. It’s also home to the Kenroku-en garden in Kanazawa.

Nachi Falls

The tallest, single-drop waterfall in Japan at 133 meters, Nachi Falls is a dramatic spot to visit. It’s also home to a Shinto shrine thought to be more than 1,400 years old.

Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route

Explore this route and you will get to see some truly spectacular mountain scenery. The section of road between Bijodaira and Murodo is particularly beautiful, plus there is a cable car that offers great views.

Sagano Bamboo Forest

Situated on the outskirts of Kyoto, this forest offers a respite from the tourist crowds of the city. Row upon row of bamboo stalks make for an otherworldly atmosphere, and they also make a distinctive sound in the wind.

Are You Ready for the Final Switch to Real ID?

Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
