Tucked way up in the upper corner of the United States, Washington comes in second after Alaska for states having the most glaciers off of the coast. Located a little more than an hour outside of the capital Olympia, and between two bodies of water, Seattle, Washington, has become a trendy city for young travelers to explore. Here are the top five things to do while visiting this popular area.
On the shores of the Puget Sound, Discovery Park is the best place in Seattle to go bird watching or catch a glimpse of the harbor seals and California sea lions. The park also has 11.81 miles of hiking trails.
Artisans, farmers and small businesses make up this downtown community, which brings local culture to residents and tourists. The market offers a spread of sellers with unique and familiar items for anyone’s needs.
Owned by the renowned author, radio show host and chef Tom Douglas, Etta’s is the spot for fresh Seattle salmon and other Pacific Northwest seafood options. The restaurant is located at the north end of Pike Place Market.
One of Seattle’s popular tourist destinations, Ballard Locks is the link between the Puget Sound, Lake Union and Lake Washington. Visitors can have a look underwater at the fish ladder that allow the local salmon to spawn upstream or relax in the botanical gardens that surround the canals.
Reaching multigenerational audiences, the Museum of Pop Culture is perfect for just about anyone. See exhibits about your favorite musicians, movies, games and so much more. The museum also has MoPOP after dark where guests 21 and older can enjoy cocktails while exploring the museum.
