Now returning to the Empire Polo Club for the 16th time, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is back and bigger than ever. The event has grown to become one of the most popular in America, which along with its sister festival Stagecoach is predicted to inject more than $704 million into the global economy; $403 million of which will benefit Coachella Valley businesses, bringing in $3.18 million for the city of Indio, Calif.
Not everyone is pleased with the festival’s success. The New York Times recently announced they will not attend this year’s Coachella or Bonnaroo, citing the increasing homogeneity of mega-festivals across the country and opting for smaller, purpose-driven events instead. Despite the naysayers, many still enjoy the scope of the attractions and lineup of Coachella, especially for many of the highly anticipated performances this year that include three reunion shows from Guns N’ Roses, LCD Soundsystem and the 90s shoegaze favorite, Lush. Even Ice Cube is trying to reunite N.W.A. for his performance, but you can check out the confirmed lineup at coachella.com.
