Keeping track of your luggage is about to get a lot easier, more user friendly and more luxurious. Lifestyle brand TUMI launched a new product called the Global Locator, a wireless device (which measure 4.33 inches by 2.55 inches and weighs 5.2 ounces) that employs GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth technology to provide the location of your traveling luggage wherever you (and it) may go.

To use Global Locator, travelers can simply insert the device into their luggage and run the latest version of the app. If luggage (and packed tracking device) is mishandled or travels out of range from the mobile device, the traveler will receive an alert. In Travel Mode, the app will track the location of the bag every 20 to 30 minutes. When in Hotel Mode, alternatively, the user can set the luggage to a specific location as a “home base.” If removed from this location, the app will alert the user. The smart device knows to shut down during flight (switching into airplane mode) and to turn back on once the plane lands.

Users of the Global Locator must download the free app for iOS or Android devices and purchase the TUMI device for $150, plus $50 for a one-year service plan.
