As one of Chile’s top beach destinations, La Serena offers a wealth of incredible dining and entertainment. The beautiful little city boasts great beaches, delicious seafood and plenty of nightlife.
Start with breakfast at Dulceria Y Emporio La Trinidad. This quaint seaside café offers scrumptious breakfast sandwiches and empanadas, along with incredible coffee. A morning snack will cost you less than $15.
La Serena is home to 29 churches, a large number for a city this size. Be sure to stop by a few of them in the morning. The main cathedral, Plaza de Armas, is located on the central square. Other great choices include Iglesia San Francisco and Iglesia Santo Domingo. You might still have time to squeeze in a museum in the morning, so seek out the Museo Histórico Casa Gabriel González Videla. The building houses a great variety of historic artifacts alongside beautiful modern work. Admission is free.
At lunchtime, refill at Burger Club, home of the best burgers in La Serena. A meal will cost less than $20.
Next, head to the Jardín del Corazón to experience the largest Japanese garden in South America. The garden is full of wonderful pagodas, waterfalls and koi ponds. From there, it’s time to explore the beach. La Serena has plenty to choose from, but Playa el Faro is one of the largest and most easily accessible. Aside from its gorgeous lighthouse, the beach also runs alongside Avenida del Mar, La Serena’s busiest tourist street. Spend the afternoon relaxing or trying out the local surf.
End the day with a meal at Pica Mar Adentro for some truly incredible seafood. A meal will cost $30.
