Quirky is an online community aimed at making the invention process simple and accessible for more creators around the world.

Lots of people have great product ideas — they just don’t have the time, money or skill sets needed to see them through. Quirky can help you find all three. Maybe you don’t have an idea, but you do have valuable talents and aren’t sure where to use them. If that’s the case, Quirky can connect you with meaningful projects you can really sink your teeth into.

If the process sounds a little too good to be true, don’t write it off just yet. Quirky has a rather long and slightly complicated process for getting a product from the mind to the store shelf. Someone with an idea shares that idea on an invention platform. Talented designers, artists, scientists and more browse ideas until they find something that catches their eye. They submit samples of previous work to the individual with the idea and, if their work is picked, they’re on the team. Teams work together to create a product submission that is then voted on through a product evaluation process. If a product or idea submission is chosen after the evaluation, it’s pitched to brand partners. Some of Quirky’s current brand partners include Mattel and GE, among others. Product revenue is shared among all of the individuals involved.

So far, Quirky has paid out more than $10 million in product revenue to its members. Some of the inventions that have been launched from the site include Aros, a smartphone-controlled, portable air conditioner that learns your habits to maximize cooling potential while saving money and Squeezie, a toothpaste-dispensing toothbrush.
