Nestled inside the largest intact temperature rainforest on Earth lies one of the world’s most alluring and unique creatures — Canada’s Spirit Bears. The Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia is the site of the Spirit Bear Lodge where you can witness these majestic creatures up close with unique sightseeing tours.
Spirit Bear Lodges offer quest tours ranging from four to seven days that take you through the wilderness of Princess Royal Island, home of Kitasoo Spirit Bear Conservancy. Here you’ll get to interact with local wildlife while in search of the elusive spirit bear, and also spot a few grizzlies along the way.
You’ll also engage with members of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation, the area’s native population and learn all about local culture, including efforts to preserve the spirit bears’ natural environment.
The Lodge itself is designed in the style of traditional long houses built by First Nation tribes and provides breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean right outside the windows; you might even spot a passing orca or dolphin. Inside, you’ll find a cozy environment with a king-sized bed and beautiful accommodations for tour guests.
Head over to the Sprit Bear Lodge website for more information on tour dates and prices and to learn all about the conservation efforts in the region.
