If you’re traveling to Charleston this month, what should you do, see and experience? Here are a few top picks.
Snag the Essential Charleston Passport.
The Essential Charleston Passport can be purchased online before your trip, allowing you to visit five historic Charleston houses, South Carolina Historical Society Museum, Charleston Museum and Gibbes Museum of Art. If you pay a little extra, you can also get into Middleton Place and Drayton Hall.
Take advantage of some sweet hotel deals.
There are several hotels offering special spring savings through June 1. At boutique Ryder Hotel, book the Spring to Charleston bundle, giving you up to 15 percent off your stay, welcome cocktails and a $50 dining credit. At Hotel Emeline, book the Spring Stroll offer, which includes two tickets for a walking tour bundled in with the cost of a stay.
Attend Art Charleston.
If your visit happens to coincide with Art Charleston, May 9–13, attend this new art festival at Gibbes Museum of Art. It will include art lectures, gallery walks, workshops and tours, and even an art auction. If you happen to miss the festival though, the museum is still worth a visit, especially to see the major spring exhibit, Fighters for Freedom: William H. Johnson Picturing Justice, organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
