Where to Travel in July

Summer is here, so it’s time to book that long-awaited summer vacation and take advantage of time off work. Whether you’re seeking an international getaway or a staycation closer to home, here are some of the hottest summer travel destinations for 2019.

Lake Placid, New York

Although more well-known for its winter sports, like ice hockey, the lake is a splendid summer vacation destination as well, with outdoor activities for all ages, a rousing Fourth of July celebration and stunning scenery without the scorching hot temps. Visit early in the month to catch the I Love New York Horse Show July 1–7, or visit the overlapping I Love BBQ Festival July 5–7.

Cheyenne, Wyoming

Head to the wild west for Cheyenne Frontier Days, the largest rodeo festival in the world. July 19–28, catch bull riders, steer wrestling, carnivals and live musical performances from acts like Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts.

Switzerland

Escape the suffocating heat and crowds along the southern coast of Europe and instead head to the Swiss Alps. For a truly unforgettable trip, add the Montreux Jazz Festival to your itinerary, which kicks off in late June, extends into early July and features performers like Sir Elton John and Janet Jackson. Stay through the month to take part in the Fête des Vignerons, or winegrowers’ festival.
