The Center Lovell Inn in western Maine is up for grabs; all you need is $125 and a stellar essay to own this inn for a year.
This historic 1805 bed and breakfast has seven guestrooms and a gourmet restaurant. The inn offers stunning views of the White Mountains and is across from Kezar Lake.
According to CNN, the essay contest is a tradition for the Center Lovell Inn. Current owner Janice Sage won the inn in 1993 through a similar writing contest. She served as innkeeper for the past 22 years and is on the verge of retirement.
The essays have a strict 200-word limit and must include a beginning, middle and end; they must describe why the writer wants to win the inn. Sage will choose the top 20 essays and then hand them over to a panel of two judges.
Essays must be received June 6. Sage will cancel the contest and return the entry fees if there are less than 7,500 participants. For rules and more information visit The Center Lovell Inn’s essay contest page.
