Iowa’s Walking Ched is the talk of the internet. While people are raving about it, it has also racked up its fair share of haters. Who knew a burger could be so polarizing?
Part of the reason this burger is so controversial is because the bun is made from macaroni and cheese. Yes, you read that correctly. The burger is served between two breaded, deep-fried macaroni and cheese rounds. It sounds like heaven, right?
The Des Moines-based restaurant Zombie Burger and Drink Lab serves up the famous Walking Ched. In fact, it’s one of the restaurant’s top three sellers. The massive mound of mac and cheese mania tops a burger with cheddar cheese, red onions, mayo and bacon caramelized onions. The best part of this burger is the heap of warm mac and cheese added on top of the crunchy mac and cheese bun, with some meat and veggies thrown in for flavor and texture.
Named after the AMC hit series The Walking Dead, this ooey-gooey, cheddary monster burger has been on Zombie Burger’s menu since the restaurant’s opening in 2011. It comes with your choice of a single, double tap or triple patty, for $8.79, $10.79 and $12.79 respectively.
The menu includes not only the Walking Ched, but also health-conscious options like vegan burgers and salads. Every burger on the menu can be served with either two types of veggie patties, chicken breast or a roasted Portobello mushroom in place of the beef patty.
To top it off, for a $1 more patrons can add a fried egg or even more bacon — talk about a #cheatmeal.
