Bed bugs are not a problem exclusive to the third world or low-cost motels. They are capable of reproducing in any type of accommodation that has places to hide, like carpets, cushions, bedding and, yes, suitcases. Your luggage, especially a cloth suitcase, has plenty of nooks and crannies for pests to hide. Fortunately ThermalStrike designed a suitcase which heats its contents to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which is lethal for bed bugs and their eggs.
The hard-side suitcase is made of a lightweight polycarbonate shell, which completely seals off the contents from the outside, preventing bugs from entering or escaping. Once plugged into a wall socket, a blue light indicates an electrical current. A timer lets the user choose a two-, six- or eight-hour heating cycle, though a full eight hours is recommended for a full suitcase. A green light indicates the heating panels are on, and users are advised to remove food, medications, cosmetics, electronics and any other objects that might get damaged by the heat.
