Reviews / Restaurant

My husband and I love experiencing Philadelphia’s dining scene. We often look to Philadelphia Magazine’s seasonal 50 Best Restaurants list when picking a place to eat. We recently dined with friends at Friday Saturday Sunday, a frequent on the list as well as on the 50 Best Bars list.

We arrived to the restaurant in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood on time for our reservation and were seated immediately on the intimate second floor. The four of us decided to split a bottle of Lambrusco while perusing the menu. Our knowledgeable waiter offered some recommendations and suggested we split some smaller plates, as dishes are served family style. Since there were many tempting options, we decided to share both small plates and entrées.

Complimentary bread with rich butter was first to arrive. From the smaller plate selection, we ordered scallop ceviche, beef tartare and mussel toast. I was skeptical of the mussel toast, though it turned out to be my favorite of the small plates. The cooked and diced mussels on crusty toast were topped with a garlicky sauce for a hearty but not overpowering dish. From the pasta course we chose seafood bucatini and pork gemelli. These were both standout dishes and disappeared quickly from our plates. We split cauliflower and collards greens from the vegetable section — perfect for a cold winter evening. We enjoyed roasted chicken and New York strip steak as our entrées. The proteins were tender and perfectly prepared. To end our meal on a sweet note, we split the black and tan sundae — a brownie and blondie combination with ice cream.

Overall the meal and service were outstanding. Friday Saturday Sunday is a must if you’re looking for a nice night out with friends or your partner.
