When visiting New Orleans, a rental car is an unnecessary expense. Here are a number of ways to save money getting around the city.
1. Rent a Bicycle:
New Orleans is the optimal biking city because the terrain is flat and most everything you could dream of seeing is within biking distance. There are a number of highly rated, local bike rental shops in the downtown area, including A Bicycle Named Desire, Bicycle Michael’s and The American Bicycle Rental Company.
2. Hop the Streetcar:
The St. Charles Streetcar is the oldest continuously running streetcar line in the world and provides stunning views of uptown’s magnificent oak trees and mansions. For a taste of other New Orleans sites, consider taking the Canal Streetcar Cemeteries and the Canal Streetcar City Park/Museum routes. The best part of NOLA’s streetcars? The standard fare for a one-way trip is only $1.25.
3. Hail a Pedicab:
Eco-friendly and fun, riding a pedicab is a great way to get around town while seeing some of the city’s most captivating neighborhoods, including the French Quarter, Central Business District and Warehouse District. To get a ride, check out NOLA Pedicabs and Need a Ride Pedicabs.
