In accordance with the REAL ID act passed by Congress in 2005, nine statedriver licenses will no longer be valid identification for domestic air travel beginning in 2018.
Come January of next year, license holders from Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, South Carolina, Montana, Oklahoma and Washington, will all require an alternate form of ID for federally operated, commercial flights traveling within the United States.
Anyone with a driver’s license from the states affected should visit tsa.gov for more information before traveling next year.
Passports will remain a viable form of identification, but for all other ID requirements and security standard questions, REAL ID enforcement briefs will have more information.
