Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting people and communities by creating a nationwide network of public trails, recently launched a national Share the Trail campaign to encourage safe trail use.

The new initiative endeavors to address the potentially serious topic of safe trail use in a fun, shareable way, as responsible use becomes critical to the safety of all trail users while people of all ages and skills levels make use of trails around the country.

RTC asks people across the nation to take the Share the Trail pledge in order to help set a good example for others and be considerate on the trail. The campaign is designed to ensure users of all skill levels and recreational pursuits, from walkers and runners to bicyclists and horseback riders, feel safe and comfortable each and every time they are on the trail.

The six primary trail use tips advise to use safe speeds; keep right, pass left; stand aside while standing still; mind your pets; be alert; and know and follow the rules.

RTC focuses on one of the six main themes with quick tips and relevant stories each week on the campaign website.
