Valencia is receiving more and more visitors as word spreads about its restaurants, beaches and innovative architecture.
The best breakfast in town is at Dulce de Leche ($12) with sweet breads, pastries and savory items too. After breakfast, take a stroll along the Jardin del Turia, a park that used to be the Turia river bed until it was diverted to the edge of town. Marvel at the Calatrava-designed Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, and walk along to the botanical gardens in the middle of town.
Valencia is famous for rice-based dishes such as paella, and Casa Roberto is a top spot. This traditional Valencian restaurant serves paella and other rice dishes in the traditional fashion ($20). Get into the spirit of the city with a traditional lunch.
Take a look around the central market, and then get down to one of the city beaches for the afternoon. La Malvarrosa is the most famous, and it starts close to the port area.
After a refreshing shower, it’s time for dinner at Restaurante Arribar ($30). Try to get a spot on the terrace in warm weather, and enjoy the views over the beach and the port.
Continue your evening at Hawaika or Fox Congo, where the drinks flow long into the night (cocktails around $7) before a leisurely stroll back to your hotel.
