The Northwest is a vegan and vegetarian paradise, a region where a strong reliance on local agriculture and an anything-goes attitude toward everything — including food — means a proliferation of meat-free restaurant options.
In Seattle, you can often find outstanding cuisine sans meat, and sometimes without any animal products at all.
For the best options, visit restaurants like the elegant Café Flora, where you should opt to dine in under the plant-filled atrium, with a lovely fountain as the centerpiece in this romantic space. It’s a great spot for a date night or special occasion, as it tends slightly on the upscale side of pricing.
Chaco Canyon specializes in comfort food, all of which is vegetarian. Your options include curry, enchiladas and a tasty “hippie” bowl with quinoa and baked tofu.
If dive bars are your thing, head to Georgetown Liquor Company, all dimly lit and rough around the edges. But the food is entirely vegetarian, with excellent salads and sandwiches using Seattle’s own meat alternative, Field Roast.
Plum Bistro straddles the line between upscale and comfort food, with massive sandwiches, burgers and vegetarian dinner plates. It is all good here, as are the cocktail and wine options.
