Ferris Wheel Day may have to share Feb. 14 with another, more widely celebrated holiday, but that doesn’t make it any less important! Here are six Ferris wheels you’ll be dying to try out.
Wiener Riesenrad
The Wiener Risenrad, also known as the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel is a cultural landmark in the city, as it’s the oldest Ferris wheel in the entire world. Created in 1897, the wheel has seen its own share of odd history, as it has been the site of suicide, circus stunts, fires and more.
Niagara SkyWheel
Recently built, the Niagara SkyWheel is one of the best ways to see Niagara Falls. The enclosed gondolas are open night and day, summer and winter, so you can see the Falls in all of their breathtaking beauty no matter the season.
Tianjin Eye
The Tianjin Eye is unique in its own way, as the first and only Ferris wheel to be constructed over a bridge. It takes half an hour for one full rotation of the wheel, and it can hold up to 384 passengers.
Big O
The Big O was a groundbreaking construction, as it’s the largest Ferris wheel with no central axis, which can sometimes be the heaviest and most important part of similar wheels. Located at a theme park in Tokyo, a rollercoaster passes through the center.
Pacific Park Wheel
An easily recognizable site, Pacific Park is home to the Pacific Park Wheel, which is special for one reason. This Ferris wheel is the only solar-powered wheel in the world!
The Texas Star
Leave it to Texas to go big or go home. The Texas Star is North America’s largest Ferris wheel, but you only have one chance to ride it. It’s only open during the Texas State Fair, which is an event worth attending for more reasons than one.
