Kuma Kafe in Osaka, Japan

Visiting a Western restaurant in the middle of Japan might seem blasphemous, but sometimes you just want a good burger. Or, in this case, some delicious pizza.

Kuma Kafe is one of the most popular restaurants in Osaka not just for tourists and expats, but all locals. That’s because it serves some pretty fantastic dishes familiar to travelers from Europe and America; they seem to specialize in burgers and pizza.

The Australian owner (I believe) was friendly and came out and chatted up the guests while I was there, so it was definitely a friendly atmosphere. The menu is pretty extensive and includes some Japanese dishes too, so don’t feel like you can only go here for a taste of home.

Another traveler recommended the nacho pizza, which is precisely what I ordered. The best pizza I’ve eaten in my life was at a little pizzeria in France (also blasphemous, I know) but this was a close second! It had just the right amount of cheesy goodness with delicious flavors of nachos mixed in.

Best of all, the place is affordable. I went in expecting to spend more than $20, which is kind of normal in Osaka, but ending up spending barely more than $10 for food and drink.

I’d definitely recommend Kuma Kafe to a friend and will be returning if I ever make it back to Osaka.
