You don’t have to go south to enjoy great barbecue. Here are three of our favorite joints in the Big Apple.
Mighty Quinn’s
Mighty Quinn’s first made waves at Smorgasborg before opening its fast casual, brick-and-mortar location in East Village. Pitmaster Hugh Mangum is known in the city for his authentic smoky taste and perfectly blended dry rub.
Fette Sau
The name is actually German for “fat pig,” but this auto shop turned barbecue joint is known for making some of the best American fare in Williamsburg. In true backyard barbecue fashion, Fette Sau serves their food at communal tables, often with a line stretching around the room. Favorites include loin chops, pulled pork shoulder and beef ribs, in addition to classic sides like baked beans.
John Brown Smokehouse
Serving Kansas City-style barbecue, John Brown Smokehouse is a no-frills spot in Long Island City that specializes in burnt ends, crispy yet tender strips of pork dipped in house-made barbecue sauce.
