Hilleberg has been the name in expedition tents for the last several decades. It’s simply the most reliable and respected tentmaker out there, even on an international scope, especially if you need heavy-duty shelter that will stand up to the elements.
The company makes an array of tents that can fit any situation, from ultra-light, minimalist shelters to large, all-season tents that can sleep an entire family — or expedition team. They all pack down amazingly well, meaning you can shove them into a backpack or toss it in the back of your car and hit the road.
The tents can be a little tricky to set up the first time, but after that, you should get the hang of it. And the great thing about Hilleberg is they’re built so you can actually set up the tent from the inside, so if the weather isn’t cooperating you don’t have to stand outside without shelter while you construct the tent.
One downside is sometimes the inner tent body can touch the tent’s rain fly, distributing some of the outer moisture into the inside of the tent — and its occupants and belongings. It’s one area Hilleberg can improve on newer generations.
