Looking for rustic home cooking near Los Angeles? Look no further than the bright red Auntie Em’s Kitchen in Eagle Rock. This adorable neighborhood fixture has plenty of home-cooked options to tickle your fancy.

Think of it as comfort food with a California twist. The menu changes seasonally but you’ll always find favorites like freshly made quiches and avocado toast. Their fall avocado toast is a flavorful combination of an over-easy egg, hand-made sweet potato hummus, sliced avocado, onion sprouts, pumpkin seeds and za’atar.

For lunch, try the Indian spiced chickpea sandwich — a hearty vegetarian option. This sandwich combines black beans, chickpeas, carrots, red onions, celery, sun-dried tomatoes and spicy curry dressing with balsamic dressing, cucumber and baby greens on whole-grain bread.

Don’t pass up the freshly baked dessert or outdoor patio seating. The bakery has a tempting selection of cupcakes, cookies, cakes and seasonal desserts. Try the coconut cupcake topped with coconut frosting for a tropical treat.

Have some cream soda or a kombucha on the side and consider your meal complete. Auntie Em’s is the perfect stop on your trip. If only they were open for dinner!
