Bike Path to Link Maine and Florida Through 15 States

Long-distance cyclists have their run of the mill when it comes to bike routes that traverse some of the most beautiful landscapes throughout the United States. From the coasts of the oceans to the mountains and everything in between, both road and mountain bikers have innumerable opportunities to hit the road and enjoy nearly every kind of natural scenery. A new route to debut on the cycling scene will trump all other routes by traveling from Maine to Florida and a bit beyond.

Conceived in 1992 by the nonprofit organization East Coast Greenway Alliance, based in North Carolina, the East Coast Greenway was originally planned to link existing trails to create one long extended trail to grace the east coast of the United States. With 30 percent complete, the mostly flat trail will eventually encompass 3,000 miles of both rural land and urban centers.

Once completed, the trail will travel through 15 states, from the Maine-Canada border to the isles of Key West, Fla. The car-free trail keeps cyclists at a safe distance from the roadway and welcomes all ages.

The trail also serves as a tourist attraction to encourage international cyclists to visit the United States to cycle one of the country´s longest contiguous routes.
