Czech Republic sports a new hotel made of shipping containers that can be easily moved each season. The simple but fetching design was created in just four months.
Created by Artikul architects, the ContainHotel has five rooms that can hold a total of 13 guests. Its two 20-foot containers each have a 40-foot-high cube container placed on the top. The bottom floor consists of bathrooms, a technical room, a storeroom and a four-bed guestroom, while the upstairs holds four rooms accessed through a shared terrace. Views stretch over the nearby Elbe River. The hotel is located at a surf campsite close to Litomerice in the Czech Republic.
The project prides itself on its minimalist design, though the builders didn’t spare on the furniture, as the hotel contains custom pieces throughout. Rooms are each outfitted with different colors of natural linoleum and black industrial lighting, with a maritime and naval theme conveyed by round porthole windows and a railing of ropes and nets.
The eco-friendly design uses an in-built water reservoir for showers and sinks, which also have water-saving taps. Only biodegradable cosmetics are used in the hotel, and sun breakers are made of waste wood planks from a nearby sawmill.
